Defence counsel for Jordi SànchezJordi Turull and Josep Rull have requested release on bail during their trial at the Supreme Court to avoid them suffering new "humiliating" incidents from police. Specifically, they denounce the conditions of their transfer to Madrid from Catalonia last week.

They also claim their right to the presumption of innocence was violated in statements to the BBC by the head of Global Spain, Irene Lozano, and again call for less severe measures so their right to defence isn't violated.

During the transfer, Civil Guard officers recorded a video in which they could be heard apparently laughing at members of the public gathered along the route to show their support for the prisoners. They were also held in conditions "more appropriate for high-risk prisoners than peaceful parliamentarians".

In the filing, lawyer Jordi Pina also criticises the police associations which supported the agent and notes that "it's not the first time" they've "been the subject of humiliating treatment in the context of being driven by police".

As such, they call for less expensive interim measures "which don't at any time diminish at all the dignity they deserve and avoid them being subjected daily to future police mocking like that described".
