The Spanish nationalist demonstration that took place this afternoon in central Barcelona has ended with acts of vandalism in the central Plaça Sant Jaume as some of the demonstrators tore down a huge banner from the pro-independence group Omnium and then set it on fire, while others attempted to pull down the ‘More Democracy’ banner hanging on the façade of the Town Hall, although in the end they only managed to damage it slightly. Fascist salutes were on full and frequent view.

This is one of several violent acts carried out by Spanish nationalists, following the aggressions by unionist protesters against independence supporters on Saturday morning, which also took place in Plaça Sant Jaume. Other attacks against citizens also occurred in Gavà and Seville.
In a further extremist action today, a Madrid anti-independence crowd, including many teenagers, sang the Spanish fascist hymn Cara al Sol.
