Scenes of high tension and confrontations have been seen this evening in front of the Spanish government to Catalonia's building in Barcelona. On the one side, the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) who have closed off the street; on the other, demonstrators protesting the imprisonment of five politicians. Some people are reported injured.

The tension was greatest on the corner of Llúria and Provença, one block from the delegation.

Some protesters were injured, with 5 people needing medical attention for minor injuries.

During the confrontations, some photojournalists were also hit.

In the last video, you can hear megaphones repeating: "Attention, attention. The police are speaking to you. If you don't move away from the police line, police intervention will start shortly."

The protests were called by local Committees for the Defence of the Republic, who called similar demonstrations around Catalonia. Hundreds of people gathered at the entrance to Jardinets de Gràcia, blocked Diagonal, one of the city's major routes and then walk down towards the delegation.

Some groups tried to get through the police line, at the corner of Mallorca and Bruc. Amidst the scenes of tension, the protesters, some of whom burnt photos of the king, shouted slogans like "release political prisoners" and "out, forces of occupation". A number of ambulances were parked around the delegation.

On social media, the Mossos d'Esquadra have called on participants to follow police instructions and not try to cross the cordon established on the streets Mallorca, Roger de Llúria, Pau Claris and València.
