The former Catalan president, Carles Puigdemont has presented in Geneva a complaint against Spain to the UN Human Rights Committee for the violation of the political rights of the deputies in pretrial detention and exile.

"The kingdom of Spain has to respond for having violated human rights", Puigdemont said in today's press conference. His fellow deputies named in the complaint are Carles Puigdemont, Oriol Junqueras, Raül Romeva, Jordi Turull, Josep Rull and Jordi Sànchez.

Also present at the press conference were ERC's secretary general, Marta Rovira, CUP deputy Maria Sirvent, former Catalan Parliament speaker Ernest Benach, and the international lawyer in charge of the case, Nico Krisch.

Krisch said that this complaint aims to "call international attention, especially from the United Nations, to the violation of human rights" they believe is represented by the suspension of the deputies.
