JxCat deputies in the Catalan Parliament will meet Catalan president, Carles Puigdemont, in Brussels this Wednesday. The meeting follows Supreme Court judge Pablo Llarena refusing to authorise Jordi Sànchez, former president of the Catalan National Assembly, from taking part in the debate on his investiture as president.

JxCat will have to decide how it will respond to this new veto. Given the need to discuss the new decisions which will have to be taken in the coming days, the meeting of the parliamentary party planned for tomorrow has been cancelled and the deputies have been called to Brussels.

Sànchez's lawyer has today presented an appeal to the Supreme Court so that the deputy, currently in pretrial detention in Soto del Real prison near Madrid, can attend the Parliament debate. This is a prior step to appealing to the European Court of Human Rights. The Parliament's speaker, Roger Torrent, announced on Friday that he was again postponing the investiture, awaiting the response to the appeal, originally planned to be straight to the European court.

These moves are further delaying the process of creating a new government. This comes, moreover, at a time when the discontent in the streets over the inability to invest a president, is starting to become clear. There is also the risk that it's decided that the time limit has started counting down, giving weeks to invest someone before a new election is automatically called.

Puigdemont called his deputies to a meeting on 5th February, after the speaker's decision to postpone the first investiture debate, on his candidacy. This caused strong tensions between the pro-independence parties.
