"That would not happen in Denmark, in the Faroe [Islands] or the UK". That was the strong comment from a Danish MP from the Faroe Islands, Magni Arge, referring to the imprisonment of part of the Catalan government. Arge believes it would be inconceivable for Danish politicians to be imprisoned "for their political views and political actions".

He also believes that the Danish police wouldn't act with the violence seen against the 1st October referendum. Arge, who was one of the international observers during the vote and saw Civil Guard charges in the town of Sant Joan de Vilatorrada, says that "that's nothing we're used to in northern and western European countries".

He also says that the "way basic democratic rights are administrated in the kingdom of Spain is causing me a lot of headaches".

Arge was one of the MPs who invited Puigdemont to the Danish Parliament. After the meeting, he told El Nacional that it was a "good opportunity" to find out first hand about the situation in Catalonia and to ask questions of and debate with the president.
