On the first anniversary of the Catalan independence referendum, after two hours zigzagging around the centre of Barcelona, almost a thousand people have ended up blocking the entrance to the Borsa de Barcelona, the Barcelona Stock Exchange, with the Mossos d'Esquadra, the Catalan police, watching.

The gathering organised by the CDRs (Committees for the Defence of the Republic) started at the Jardinets de Gràcia, headed down passeig de Gràcia, turned right onto carrer Provença, left onto rambla Catalunya and then carrer Aragó to end up back on passeig de Gràcia, blocking part of Gran Via. Along the way, they put up posters calling for the release of the political prisoners and defending the Catalan republic on banks and shops. Arriving at the Borsa de Barcelona, the youngest settled in whilst others carried on down the street and dispersed.

The rally took place with shouts calling for the republic, as well as the resignation of president Quim Torra and interior minister Miquel Buch after the Mossos' actions during another demonstration on Saturday. The Mossos were there again today in the form of anti-riot officers. After monitoring the situation, they headed off leaving only one van behind.

The rally at the Borsa is currently continuing indefinitely.
