Catalan president Quim Torra has made Pedro Sánchez responsible for the possible upsurge in contagions due the resumption of economic activity in Spain tomorrow. Torra has committed himself to protecting the citizens of Catalonia, in view of the decision taken by the Spanish government, and has called for an extraordinary cabinet meeting this afternoon to soften the blow inflicted by the measures dictated by the Spanish president.

Torra expressed himself in these terms at the end of the meeting between Sánchez and the autonomous communities’ presidents.

"I have once again asked for full lockdown. The risk of an upsurge and a second lockdown are enormous. Lifting it is irresponsible and reckless. Whoever makes this decision must take responsibility for it" declared Torra, when referring to what he had said at the meeting.

Torra announced that the extraordinary meeting will approve an action plan to protect the Catalan citizens, in view of the decision taken by the Spanish government. "Catalonia will take all measures available to protect the people forced to return to work", he promised.

He has announced that the measures will involve healthcare control, individual protection measures, workplace crowd control, transport and shopping centres, and special measures aimed for the elderly, dependent people and children. Torra has recalled that close to 1 million Catalan workers will have to return to work on Tuesday, due to Sánchez’s decision, when "89% of the ICUs are full”.
