The campaign against yellow loops promoted by Ciutadans has backfired, inspiring defence of the symbols of support for the imprisoned Catalan pro-independence leaders. And not only in Catalonia, but from people around Spain.

The journalist Cristina Fallarás today inspired the hashtag #RiveraQuitameEste ("Rivera, take this one from me"), with her mischievous challenge to Ciutadans' leader to remove a yellow loop in a photo posted to her Twitter feed. Things took off from there, the hashtag trending in Spain.

Translation: The yellow loop is a way of protesting against the imprisonment of politicians and activists from Catalonia. Take this one from me, Albert Rivera.

Other people then took up the idea, posting other pictures of yellow

From Galicia, I tell you, Albert Rivera and Ines Arrimadas that fascism isn't my thing.

Note: The flag in the above image is that of the autonomous community of Madrid.

Translation: I'm Andalusian, I'm not an independence supporter but I completely support the Catalans who want to being able to call for the release of their incarcerated politicians in this way. Rivera and Arrimadas are a danger for our democracy.
