Anti-independence party Ciutadans has started a campaign to remove yellow loops from public spaces. Under the slogan #SonDeTodos ("They belong to everyone"), the party's official Twitter account has posted a video encouraging their followers to remove the symbols from streets and town squares.

Yellow loops have become a symbol of support for those in pretrial detention or exile for their roles in organising last year's Catalan independence referendum.

Local public officials and party members have already responded to the call online.

Translation: Squares, parks, streets, streetlights... belong to everyone. There's no room for partisan symbols. Today, Ciutadans Sant Cugat [a town near Barcelona] has gone out to recover everyone's space. A symbolic act for your/our freedom. They won't shut us up.

Streets and public spaces belong to everyone. Now there's a Sentence, we'll see what the Committees for the Defence of the Republic do...

The party has latched onto the sentence from the High Court of Justice of Catalonia which urges for "neutrality and respect for the plurality of the public" to be guaranteed. Technically, however, the verdict only affects Sant Cugat; the court would have to accept other appeals from all other municipalities for it to be in effect everywhere.
