The Catalan president in exile, Carles Puigdemont, and minister Toni Comín have presented an appeal to Spain's Constitutional Court against the decision by the Supreme Court to not withdraw the arrest warrant against them following their election as MEPs when they acquired immunity.

The appeal, presented last Friday, is against a ruling from the court on 5th November last year which decided against suspending the arrest warrants issued against the two politicians by judge Pablo Llarena.

The filing asks for cautionary measures to be adopted given the "continued irreparable harm being caused" to the two politicians and the citizens who voted for them.

It adds that if the Constitutional Court has any doubts on the issue, it can submit a question for preliminary ruling to the Court of Justice of the EU. That court was the one that determined last month that they, along with Oriol Junqueras, had become MEPs, despite Spain's Electoral Commission arguing otherwise.
