Defence for former Catalan minister Clara Ponsatí have called for various Spanish politicians to appear in court in Scotland next year for the hearing on the extradition warrant against her. They include former prime minister Mariano Rajoy, current acting prime minister Pedro Sánchez, former foreign minister Josep Borrell, and Santiago Abascal, the leader of far-right party Vox. Similarly, they want to call on Rajoy's deputy, Soraya Sáenz de Santamaría, his foreign minister, José Manuel García-Margallo, and Sánchez's interior minister, Fernando Grande-Marlaska.

Ponsatí's lawyer, Aamer Anwar, said outside court that "Catalonia cannot be managed by the regime of terror".

The former education minister arrived at court today alongside Anwar to submit their witness requests. Outside, the lawyer defended their choices and attacked leading Spanish politicians, who he said are "accused of infringing the rule of law to persecute those whose sole crime was to protest peacefully and call for independence."

They have also asked for the court to summons "jurists and human rights organisations" to testify to the "lack of impartiality in the trial of the Catalan political prisoners". That said, he also noted that the "independence movement is greater than any one prisoner or exile."
