Hundreds of thousands of people are again demonstrating in Catalonia this afternoon, this afternoon in Barcelona's carrer Marina street, calling for the release from preventive detention of eight ministers and the presidents of pro-independence organisations ANC (Catalan National Assembly) and Òmnium. Attendees have come from all around Catalonia, with more than 900 coaches.

Trains have also been packed since midday with people heading to the Catalan capital. The strong influx of people has filled the wide boulevard, and the demonstrators have ended up having to walk in from blocks away.

The demonstration is headed by a front row of immediate family members of the political prisoners. The second row is formed of representatives of the pro-independence political parties who support the protest.

Earlier, a group of lawyers from Vic, the county of imprisoned minister Carles Mundó, also marched for the release of the political prisoners.

The large attendance has far surpassed the predictions of ANC and Òmnium and captured international attention. News agency Agence France-Presse tweeted: "Barcelona: independence supporters want to mobilise against and call for a new demonstration".
