Germany has updated its travel advice to its citizens regarding Spain, warning that despite the hopes that came with Pedro Sánchez's new government, the dispute between Spain and Catalonia continues. "Despite the disposition of the Spanish government for dialogue, the political conflict in Catalonia remains unresolved," the foreign ministry writes.

This is the first comment of any kind from German authorities on the political situation in Catalonia since a Schleswig-Holstein court rejected extraditing president Carles Puigdemont on a charge of rebellion and a Spanish judge then withdrew the European Arrest Warrant against him and the other exiled leaders.

Germany says that "larger demonstrations" are expected in Barcelona for the Diada (the Catalan national day) on 11th September and the anniversary of last year's referendum on 1st October. "Travellers are advised to stay informed via local media, to avoid demonstrations and to obey the instructions of the security forces," they conclude.
