On the occasion of the general strike called in Catalonia for this Friday, 18th October, which has the support of political parties, unions, bodies and social, civil and cultural organisations, the editorial staff of El Nacional have agreed:
- To join the general strike in protest at the verdicts in the trial of pro-independence leaders in the Supreme Court, which include harsh prison sentences for the sole fact of having complied with the democratic mandate from the public expressed in the Parliament election on 27th September 2015 and in the referendum of 1st October 2017.
- To only publish news this Thursday relating to the strike and reactions to the verdicts. The rest of our normal offering will return from midnight on Saturday 19th October.
