The USA network Bloomberg praised to high heaven the way the coronavirus pandemic was dealt with in Greece, and the speed at which measures were taken, while taking the opportunity to chastise Spain.
"The Greek government imposed severe social distancing measures at a much earlier stage of the epidemic than other southern European countries. Today, this rapid reaction has helped Greece avoid the tragic welfare crisis suffered by the richest states" it pointed out.
According to Bloomberg, Athens closed all non-essential stores just four days after reporting its first Covid-19 death. "In contrast, Italy and Spain did so after 18 and 30 days, respectively. “The lockdown in Greece came only a week later, faster than in the other two countries," he said.
The USA network is especially critical of Pedro Sanchez’s government. "The comparison with Spain is very telling. Although Italy should have taken action sooner, its politicians can argue that they were the first in Europe to face an unprecedented challenge. The Spanish government, on the other hand, had the advantage of time but hesitated, and let massive gatherings, such as demonstrations and football matches, take place until 26 days after Covid-19's first death" it laments.
