Today's "standstill" in Catalonia has seen the largest number of road and railway closures in such a strike. Since early this morning, hundreds of members of the public have closed roads, motorways and railway lines. The train lines affected include regional Rodalies and FGC lines, as well as the long-distance AVE.

The standstill calling for the release of political prisoners started strongly shortly after 6am and still continues as of 5pm this evening. Up to 76 roads all around Catalonia were closed, although all but 16 had reopened by 4pm. The actions, led by CDRs (Committees in Defence of the Republic), also affected certain Rodalies and FGC lines and AVE in Girona and Barcelona-Sants stations.

Situation at 4pm

A range of roads are still affected, according to the Servei Català de Trànsit (Catalan Transport Service). As of 4pm this afternoon, traffic was still interrupted in routes linking Catalonia with France and Andorra, like the AP-7, closed at two points in Girona province, N-154 at Seu d'Urgell and N-152 at Puigcerdà.

In the province of Barcelona, there are restrictions for lorries on the C-25 at Vic heading towards Girona and at Avinyó travelling towards Vic. On the AP-7 there are restrictions for lorries going towards Girona at Sant Celoni. Meanwhile, in Terres de l'Ebre, there are delays on the N-340 near Amposta in both directions.

In the province of Lleida, there are 7 sections affected. The A-2 towards Barcelona at Soses is closed, as are the A-22 at Almacelles towards Lleida, the C-12 at Maials in both directions, access to the AP-2 from the LL-12 at Albatàrrec heading south, the N-145 at Seu d'Urgell in both directions and the N-230 at Vilaller and at Alfarràs in both directions.

As for the province of Girona, the AP-7 is shut in both directions at Riudellots de la Selva and at Borrassà, where there is a diversion in place along the N-II. Also at Riudellots de la Selva, the A-2 is closed in both directions, as is the N-152 at Puigcerdà. there are delays on the N-II at Vilamalla heading south.
