On the occasion of the general strike called in Catalonia for this Thursday, 21st February, which has the support of Catalan parties, unions, bodies and social, civil and cultural organisations, the editorial staff of El Nacional have agreed:
- To join the general strike in the face of the imprisonment and prosecution of the pro-independence political leaders in the Supreme Court, with more than 200 years in prison solicited by prosecutors, for the sole fact of having complied with the democratic mandate from the public expressed in the elections to the Catalan Parliament on 27th September 2015 and the referendum on 1st October 2017.
- To only publish news this Thursday relating to the strike and the day's hearing in the Supreme Court trial which has inspired it. The rest of our normal offering will return from midnight on Friday 22nd February.
