Bodyguards with Catalan president Quim Torra detected Spanish police agents following him during the 10th November Spanish general election, according to the newspaper eldiario.es. Early in the morning, officers from the Mossos, Catalonia's police force, stationed outside his house saw a car drive up and stop in an area where parking is prohibited.
Approaching the vehicle and telling the occupants they couldn't park there, the three men inside said they were agents of the Spanish National Police Corps, showed ID badges and stated: "We're here for the same thing". The Catalan officers checked the license plate against a database and found it wasn't registered for any vehicle. The three men waited on a café terrace whilst Torra walked to his polling station to vote.
Later, one of the countersurveillance teams with the president spotted a Peugeot 308 following them, even crossing a red light, apparently to keep close to Torra's car. The Mossos checked that license plate against the database too, similarly returning no result.
Finally, they stopped the car near plaça Kennedy. The woman and man inside said they were members of the Spanish police too and showed their own badges. Asked whether they following anyone, they said no.
The president's security team reported the incidents via internal channels to CECOR, the coordination centre which brings together the Mossos, the National Police Corps and the Civil Guard. The Spanish interior ministry says they have no knowledge of the events and denied that Torra was being tracked "that day nor any other".
