The president of the major pro-independence organisation Òmnium Cultural, Jordi Cuixart, has called for a "peaceful and serene" response to all the attacks from the Spanish state. The best response, Cuixart said, "will be to fill the squares and streets of the country tomorrow, Sunday, for the Marathon for Democracy", the large-scale poster hanging operation being organised is now also, then, going to be a response to the "falsehoods and lies from the public prosecutor".

Also this Saturday, the headquarters of Òmnium Cultural hosted the presentation of the 1st October Manifesto, a manifesto driven by the Galicians Xosé Manuel Beiras, Martiño Noriega, mayor of Santiago de Compostela, and Miguel-Anxo Fernán Vello, a deputy from En Marea for Lugo. Among the more than 130 signatories are the  Òmnium, Jordi Cuixart; the mayor of Badalona, Dolors Sabater, Joan Tardà of ERC (Catalan Republican Left); Maddalen Iriarte, spokesperson forEH Bildu (Basque Country Unite) in the Basque Parliament; Teresa Rodríguez, deputy in the Andalusian Parliament, as well as politicians from the autonomous communities of Madrid, Extremadura, the Canary Islands, Múrcia, Castile and León, Asturias, Castile-La Manche, Aragon and the Balearic Islands, among others.

Xosé Manuel Beiras was tasked with opening the presentation. The Galician political leader wanted to make it clear that "no democrat can remain on the sidelines of the situation taking place in Catalonia" because "the rights and freedoms of everyone are at stake".

For his part, the president of the ANC (Catalan National Assembly), Jordi Sànchez, also wanted to remind people of tomorrow's events in front of the different town halls in a message on Twitter.

Translation. [First] They can take command of the Mossos [Catalan police] from us, accuse us of sedition and smother Catalan institutions. But they won't silence us. We will win! [Second] The best response in the Marathon for Democracy. Tomorrow, in all the town squares, to work for democracy from 11am. We're there.
