Leo Messi is the best footballer of all time. The Argentinian genius has today written a new chapter in the history of football and won his sixth Ballon d'Or. That breaks the Barça player's tie on five each with Cristiano Ronaldo for the most wins by an individual player.

2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015 and now 2019. Yesterday, 1st December, marked ten years since his first Ballon d'Or, opening a decade in which he was the inarguable king of the game. Barça's 10 takes over from Luka Modrić as the holder of France Football's title in its 64th edition.

Other winners

The Women's award went to Megan Rapinoe, the star of the summer, co-captaining the US team to victory in the World Cup.

This year saw the first presentation of the Yashin Trophy, designed to be the Ballon d'Or for goalkeepers. It went to Alisson Becker, current Champions League and Copa América champion with Liverpool and Brazil respectively. Barça's Marc-André Ter Stegen was among the nominees.

The Kopa Trophy for the best player under 21 years of age went to Matthijs de Ligt. The Dutch player moved to Juventus this summer, choosing against joining his compatriot Frenkie de Jong at Camp Nou.
