What will the Mossos (Catalan police) do if the Spanish state pressures them to act against the referendum? The state could intervene, retake command, since it's a delegated role that they play?
It's difficult for me to imagine that someone would want to also change the good working of a body that has precisely demonstrated its good working these last days. It would not be justifiable. If we had been negligent as an administration in the management of this area of responsibility, there might be a legal basis for a central government to temporarily take over these powers. But as actually I believe between all of us we have demonstrated that we're perfectly able of reliably managing this power, there is no basis for that to happen. Now: only the State can know what it's prepared to do. They said they were ready for everything, and when the Spanish state says everything, it means everything. They're the ones who have to explain what this "everything" means.

Stop putting your hands on our police! We do not want it politically led by anyone

Let me ask you about that: what would be the Mossos' answer if the State pressured them to act against the decisions of the Catalan government?
The Mossos are the police of the Catalan government and they have nothing to do with the organisation of the referendum, not directly nor indirectly. I hope that no one can change this rule that has given us such good results for the security policy of this country. The Mossos d'Esquadra are a fundamental part of guaranteeing our liberties. There's no political reason that would justify changing this norm. The citizens, not the pro-independence ones, all [the citizens] will not accept it now. A citizen who will vote yes or one who will vote no, what they want is to live in peace and they want a police that works, not one that's run for political reasons. And that now, suddenly, we withdraw powers from a government that satisfactorily and carefully manages them and put them in hands of another government only for a reason of political prevention... have you ever seen that before? The Mossos d'Esquadra have to limit their work to the area of public safety. End of story. And out of politics. We've said it to exhaustion: stop putting your hands on our police! It's a professional, modern, democratic and transparent police. May it continue to be so. We don't want it politically led by anyone.

I would recommend... maximum calmness [on the day of the referendum], because otherwise someone could make a mistake with long-term consequences.

Is the removal of ballot boxes from polling stations by any police force foreseen?
No. Firstly, because it's not possible. The spread of the ballot boxes, as in all elections, is so wide that it makes an operation on such scale impractical. But secondly, because the Spanish state must see it in the same way: it is a bad image for everybody, which does it stop the wish to vote either, which does not solve anything. Exactly how many independence supporters will there stop being for the fact that the ballot boxes are taken away? I rather would say that the number will grow. Therefore, nor does it solve anything. If what they want is to end with the desire for independence of a significant part of the people of Catalonia, this is definitely not the way. Beyond looking very unpleasant, what are the effects of an action of these characteristics? Let's think about the following day. About the management of the next day. What will we do the next day? What do we do? Because that will not have stopped a single one of the independence supporters, perhaps it will have added some more. It is not an intelligent solution, even if maybe for some with very sensitive stomachs it can satisfy them in the short term. What I would recommend is that in a situation of this scale there is maximum calmness, because otherwise someone could make a mistake with long-term consequences.
