French daily Le Monde states in its Saturday edition that there is "panic" at the Moncloa palace - the seat of the Spanish government - over the possibility of Carles Puigdemont being invested as new Catalan president. The newspaper open its report with this description of the current atmosphere in Spanish government circles.

According to the newspaper, there seems to be nothing that could alter the will of Catalonia's pro-independence parties to vote in favour of Puigdemont's candidature for the presidency.

The newspaper explains that the Spanish government has made a case to the Constitutional Court to suspend the investiture session, but regards this as a risky measure after the opposition expressed to its arguments on Friday by the Council of State.

"The Spanish government's chosen course is dangerous", says the French paper, pointing out that "it is impossible" to ensure that Puigdemont will not be present in the proposed investiture session. Le Monde considers that the Spanish president, Mariano Rajoy, "is having difficulties".
