The Catalan government and the Parliament will celebrate the Diada, the Catalan National Day, with a joint institutional ceremony. The ceremony's focus will be on human rights and the fight for "freedom and democracy" and will include an homage to notable related people and groups, like Rosa Parks.

The event will take place in the Born Centre for the Culture and Memory of Barcelona at 9:30pm on 10th September, the day before the Diada. As the spokesman of the Government, Jordi Turull, explained in a press conference at the Parliament, freedom will be "the key concept" of Diada.

As a matter of fact, in the poster for Diada itself, the word "llibertat" (freedom) is highlighted, after the number 11. The combination of the numbers and the "LL" at the start of llibertat are symmetric and together symbolise the four red bars on a yellow background of the Catalan flag.

On 11th September itself, the Catalan Executive and the Board of the Parliament will go first thing in the morning to make the traditional floral offering at the monument to Rafael Casanova. Casanova was the "head councillor" of Barcelona during its siege and ended up the highest military and political leader in Catalonia until the fall of the city on 11th September 1714. After the offering at the monument, Turull will go to Casanova's tomb in Sant Boi de Llobregat, just outside the city.
