A group of extremists who had taken part in the unionist demonstration this Sunday confronted the Mossos d'Esquadra police in Barcelona's Plaça Sant Jaume. Images filmed in this central square show how the demonstrators attempted to wrestle the Catalan police officers and threw objects at them, as well as provoking them with flagpoles they carried. Some of the marchers tried to restore calm and took troublemakers away from the police cordon, while other extremists shouted slogans such as "Where were you on 1st October" or "Under Franco, this stupidity of yours would have been ended". There were also cases of passers-by being chased by extremists.

Although the demonstration had taken place at Barcelona's Passeig de Gràcia, at its conclusion some participants walked down to the administrative square of Plaça Sant Jaume, just as the pro-Republican public had done on Friday, when the Catalan Parliament declared Catalonia's independence.

During the course of the demonstration called by Catalan Civil Society, other incidents involving aggression also took place; especially against media representatives. One marcher gave a kick to a journalist from El National while he was working, filming video. Employees of Catalan public broadcaster TV3 were also verbally abused and some unionists spat at them or threw objects such as coins and lit cigarettes.

Meanwhile, union representatives for the Catalan Suburban Rail service in Barcelona say that a railway worker was assaulted at the central Provença station. A taxi driver was also attended by emergency medical services after being attacked by a group of people who had been to the demonstration. This incident took place at the corner of Pau Claris and Casp, and was denounced by several Twitter users. The cab driver, who was attacked with a beer can, received a cut above his eye.
