Wolfgang Kubicki, vice president of Germany's parliament, the Bundestag, says he discards the extradition of Catalan president Carles Puigdemont to Spain by German authorities, on a charge of rebellion. "In Germany we don't recognise a crime of rebellion, unlike in Spain. Because of this I discard extradition for this accusation made by the Spanish authorities", said Kubicki, who is also vice president of the German Liberals, speaking to Redaktionsnetzwerks Deutschland.

Kubicki indicated that the extradition would only be possible for other motives, under the terms of the European arrest warrant. "In any case, I expect that the legal and political authorities of Schleswig-Holstein will examine the matter carefully".

Under charges arising from the Catalan push for independence, Puigdemont is also accused of misuse of public funds, a less serious offence in terms of possible sentences, and if extradited for this matter, he could not be tried for the more serious crime.
