The ANC, one of the major pro-independence groups in Catalonia, hopes to attract both Catalans resident in Germany, as well as German citizens "concerned about the authoritarian drift of Spain and the role that their country could play in a possible negotiated solution", as the organization states in a press release.

The demonstration will take place at one of the most politically symbolic locations in the German capital, the Brandenburg Gate, which was closed between 1961 and 1989 as part of the military exclusion zone of the Berlin Wall. Nowadays it is one of the best known locations for demonstrations in the capital as well as a tourist attraction.
