Agents of Spain's National Police have begun the operation to try to stop the referendum of 1st October, suspended by the Constitutional Court, by means of force, and they have started to arrive at polling stations where hundreds of people are congregated.

At Ramon Llull College in Barcelona, twenty anti-riot National Police officers arrived, where they tried to enter - yet so far without success, as they have been prevented from doing so by approximately one hundred citizens.

The National Police have been activated after the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) had previously been involved at various polling stations in Catalonia, taking details of those repsonsible, but without preventing the vote. Hundreds of people formed queues from the early hours at many polling stations so that they can vote.
