US State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert has released a brief statement this Friday that "Catalonia is an integral part of Spain" and saying that the US supports the measures taken by the Spanish executive to maintain a "strong and united" Spain.
The note says that the US "enjoys a great friendship and an enduring partnership" with Spain, which it describes as a NATO ally, Spain having joined the organisation in 1982.
"Our two countries cooperate closely to advance our shared security and economic priorities," she adds. This statement is in line with previous statements from the State Department and from Nauert herself.
