The Consulate of the United States in Barcelona has this Tuesday issued a security message about the demonstrations taking place in the city against the repression from the Spanish state and its police forces, which today have searched a number of ministries and agencies of the Catalan government and arrested 14 high-ranking officials.

The consulate reports that protests are taking place today due to the "political situation in Catalonia" and warns that they could last the rest of the month. They also explain that, although the protests intend to be peaceful, they could become "confrontations" and "violence [could] break out".

As such, they ask their citizens to avoid the relevant areas of the city.
