Today, Spanish police have carried out a new operation against corruption in the world of football, arresting alleged members of a ring dedicated to fixing matches in Spain's top two leagues, looking to then benefit from betting on those games. Among those arrested are active and retired players.

Among those arrested, according to police sources, is retired former Real Madrid left back Raúl Bravo, accused of being the ringleader of the plot. Others include Borja Fernández, currently at Real Valladolid; Carlos Aranda, who is retired but played for several La Liga teams; Samuel Saiz, who moved to Getafe from Leeds last December, and Íñigo López Montaña, who moved from Extremadura to second division La Coruña in January.

Also caught up in the operation are Agustín Lasaosa, president of Huesca, and Juan Carlos Galindo Lanuza, head of the club's medical team. Saiz and Montaña were both at Huesca between 2015 and 2017; earlier this month, the team was relegated to the second division after one season in La Liga.

Those arrested are charged with belonging to a criminal organisation, corruption and money laundering. The operation, although still in its early stages, has also included searches, focused on Huesca's headquarters. It follows a complaint from La Liga over a match in May last year.
