More than 290,000 people have so far signed a petition on the platform Change.org asking for Spain's security forces to take action against the social network accounts that laughed about the attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils.

The petition, started by Antoni Marzal, asks for swift action. "In the face of the horrible terrorist attack that Barcelona has suffered today, 17th August 2017, we're perplexed by it being treated as a joke by numerous Twitter accounts. Given Twitter Spain's passivity in similar cases that have occurred in the recent past, we demand the social network, as well as the security corps and forces of the Spanish state, to take action and to pursue those behind these accounts, and to bring this behaviour in front of the legal authorities with speed and severity."
