Spanish prime minister Pedro Sánchez won't meet with the EU-Catalonia Dialogue Platform. The MEPs had asked for a meeting taking advantage of Sánchez's plan to attend the European Parliament in Strasbourg this week.

Government sources tell news agency ACN that the meeting won't happen for lack of time. Sánchez will only be in Strasbourg on Wednesday. According to his official agenda, he's already scheduled to meet PSOE's MEPs and give a joint press conference with the Parliament's president, Antonio Tajani.

Last week, some thirty MEPs from different parliamentary groups and different countries asked for a meeting. In their letter, the platform says a meeting is "necessary" and that it's "paramount that [Sánchez] see that the Catalan issue has raised deep concerns in the Union". The letter was signed by the group's chair and former Slovenian foreign affairs minister Ivo Vajgl.

The platform has expressed its regret at not receiving a formal reply from Sánchez.
