Good times at Barcelona-El Prat airport. Despite the delays and strikes seen this summer, it's achieved the best July in its history, with a total of 5,166,315 passengers2.5% more than the same month last year, according to figures published today by AENA, the Spanish public airport operator. Since the start of the year, its seen a total of 28,695,472 users.

As such, its figures for the month of July have grown steadily year-on-year almost continuously since 2004, the first year statistics for are published on AENA's website. The only drops came during the worst years of the recession, 2008 and 2009:

The total for the first seven months of the year, 28,694,472 customers, according to figures from the ministry of Public Works, is 5.7% higher than the same period in 2017.

El Prat has also seen 1.4% year-on-year growth when it comes to operations (32,593 flights) whilst goods grew 12.9% for a total of 15,476,261 tonnes.

Other Catalan airports

The other Catalan airports have also achieved good results, except Reus, which shrank slightly. Girona airport handled 310,267 passengers this July, 2.3% more than the same month last year, whilst Sabadell airport handled 4,561 movements the same month, a 4.9% year-on-year increase.

Reus airport, however, recorded 194,422 passengers in the seventh month of the year, 0.9% less than the same month in 2017. On the other hand, over the first seven months of the year, it saw a 3% increase in comparison to the same period last year.
