Catalan president Carles Puigdemont has cancelled all the events he had planned for this Friday afternoon in Neumünster, in the northern German federal state of Schleswig-Holstein, where this morning he was released after 12 days in prison. Instead, the president has travelled to Berlin.

The plan had been for Puigdemont to meet with deputies from Esquerra Republicana and his Junts per Catalunya party who had travelled to Germany to meet him as he left custody.

Later, the president was to have given a press conference on the German court's decision to offer him bail and reject extraditing him to Spain on the charge of rebellion. The press conference will take place in Berlin on Saturday morning instead.

The president did give a brief statement to the media today as he left prison before heading to Berlin with members of his team.
