The Catalan Mossos d'Esquadra police force have this afternoon begun monitoring the entrances to Catalonia, following the announcement made yesterday by president Quim Torra to maintain the entire territory in lockdown as a measure of precaution against the rapidly propagating coronavirus epidemic. At one of the checkpoints, random vehicle checks revealed 12 people with symptoms. They were referred to the medical emergency services.

The detection was carried out by a Mossos checkpoint, in conjunction with medical emergency teams, on the AP-2 motorway from Zaragoza, on its way through Soses, after a total of 103 vehicles were monitored.

There were also checks today at Sants Estació, the Barcelona terminus of the high speed train from the centre and south of the Iberian peninsula.

The checks on airports, ports, train stations, and highways are being applied while awaiting the collaboration of the Spanish government with Catalonia's lockdown plan.
