In a press conference this Friday, president of Venezuela Nicolás Maduro took the time to address Spain and specifically foreign minister Josep Borrell.

Earlier today, Borrell had said that Venezuela needs to hold an election. In response, Maduro said that it's Spain "where there needs to be an election held, since the government they've got today was not elected by the people". Pedro Sánchez's minority government came to power last June following a motion of no-confidence in Mariano Rajoy. "Spain shouldn't be giving advice", he said, adding that "it's a long time since we expelled the arrogant and imperial Spain". "We'll teach them a lesson," he concluded.

Maduro appeared at almost the same time time as the country's self-proclaimed interim president, Juan Guaidó. This was Guaidó's first public appearance since Wednesday. The crisis has already split the international community and led to at least 26 deaths.
