Oriol Junqueras, vice-president of Catalonia, imprisoned this Thursday for his role in the Catalan independence movement, has sent a message to his son Lluc who celebrated his fifth birthday the same day his father was sent to jail. Via Catalan radio program El món a Rac1, journalist Jordi Basté read a few sentences on behalf of Junqueras and his wife.
"Happy birthday from your parents," starts the message. "Yesterday, your father couldn't be with you. He's travelling for a few days, he still doesn't know how many", read Basté, "he'll bring you a present when he returns".
The short message ended asking his son to be "proud of him, who's looking for a better future for you [Lluc] and Joana [his daughter]".
