The demonstration for the release of the Catalan political prisoners has been picked up by some of the largest media organisations internationally, and the hashtag #Freedom11N has been trending on Twitter. US news channel CNN, in their international news bulletin, had a live feed of the demonstration at 7:30pm local time. The lower third read: "Huge crowd rallies for release of Catalan separatists".

UK news channel Sky News also had a live feed in their broadcast, a report which included part of their interview with president Puigdemont. The journalist described "people saying, very firmly, that their beliefs are not being respected". The international channel of Turkish broadcaster TRT also broadcast part of the demonstration live.

International news agencies, like Agence France-Presse, have also reported on today's protest in the streets of Barcelona, which attracted some 750,000 protesters according to the city's Urban Guard.

Other media outlets have also covered the event, like Euronews, French news channel BFMTV, and Germany's public international broadcaster Deutsche Welle, who opened their 8pm news with the Barcelona demonstration.

The BBC, meanwhile, published a long report minutes after the demonstration ended, including comments made today by Barcelona's mayor, Ada Colau, to her own party before she attended the rally, saying that leaders of the independence movement had "tricked the population for their own interests", "they've provoked tensions and carried out a unilateral independence declaration which the majority do not want". Agence France-Presse's Spanish language service also covered Colau's remarks in a piece entitled "The mayor of Barcelona accuses Puigdemont of leading Catalonia 'to disaster'".
