The Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) have stopped a group of people heading towards the port in Mataró, north of Barcelona, for wearing yellow scarves, because the Spanish prime minister, Mariano Rajoy, was about to hold an event. The PP (Popular Party) leader was in the city to take part in a party campaign event at the Atenea Port hotel.

CUP (Popular Unity Candidacy) Mataró reported the event in a tweet: "Yellowmania arrives in Mataró at the hands of M. Rajoy". Just days ago the Central Electoral Commission prohibited members of the public working at polling stations on 21st December from wearing yellow ribbon loops, which symbolise support for the release of the imprisoned members of the Catalan government and pro-independence leaders. They also obliged Barcelona City Council to remove the yellow lighting from fountains and the fronts of public buildings and to remove the yellow loops from all public spaces.
