The new president of the European Parliament, David Sassoli, has this Thursday lifted the ban on former Catalan president Carles Puigdemont and former minister Toni Comín entering the building after the Court of Justice of the European Union's ruling in the case of Oriol Junqueras today.

Puigdemont and Comín were informed of the decision this afternoon. They can now enter Parliament buildings as visitors, sources in Brussels have told Europa Press. Earlier, in the chamber, Sassoli had announced he had asked the Parliament's legal services to analyse the case and called on Spain to act in consequence with the verdict.

Sassoli took the decision despite today's ruling referring to neither Puigdemont or Comín directly, who are waiting for a separate verdict from the court. They had been banned from the Parliament in October by Sassoli's predecessor, Antonio Tajani, when Spain reactivated its European Arrest Warrants for them.
