Covid-19 is under control in Catalonia thanks to the vaccination campaign. Although concerns remain, for example with regard to the spread of the more-contagious Delta variant of the virus, the stabilization of the pandemic arising from progress in vaccination has led to the gradual lifting of the Catalan government's coronavirus restrictions. Thus, as from Monday June 21st, further measures are eased, among them the reopening of nightlife, although it will be gradual. Dance clubs and other late night venues can remain open until 3:30am, with occupancy of 50% their certified maximum, and check-in is required. Also, you are obliged to wear a mask when on the dancefloor, and drink at your table.

And remember that another major change on the way is that of masks: Spanish PM Pedro Sánchez has announced that as of Saturday June 26th, it will no longer be necessary to wear a facemask outside, in the whole of the Spanish state - a step that the Catalan health authorities had called for for some time.

Here are the measures that are relaxed as of 21st June:

Family or social gatherings

  • It is recommended that family and social gatherings in both public and private spheres do not exceed a maximum of 10 people, unless they are part of the same household bubble. Until now, gatherings of more than 10 people who do not live together have even banned.

Religious events

  • Limitation of occupancy of religious events to 70% of offiical capacity of the space (1,000 - 3,000 people per event, depending on the ventilation conditions of the space).

Sports club and cultural association meetings

  • Assemblies of sports, cultural and association-based entities in person: limitation to 70% of maximum authorized capacity and with an absolute maximum number of 1,000 people, and conditioned to ensure maximum ventilation.
  • In facilities that are in open spaces, or in enclosed spaces that meet enhanced ventilation and air quality conditions, up to a maximum of 3,000 people can attend, respecting the occupancy limit of 70% of normal maximum capacity.

Civic centres

  • Civic centres and facilities can now be used for civic and community activities that involve face-to-face attendance and can reach up to 70% of the authorized capacity if the minimum ventilation established in spaces and premises open to the public is guaranteed.

Smoking

  • Smoking is not allowed on public streets or in outdoor spaces when a minimum interpersonal distance of at least two metres cannot be maintained.
  • This limitation is also applicable to the use of any other inhalation devices for tobacco, vapes, water pipes, or similar.
  • You are not permitted to smoke, consume other tobacco products or e-cigarettes in public areas of large outdoor events and activities (more than 1,000 people).

These measures, approved by the Procicat at the proposal of the Catalan government, are valid for two weeks from 21st June and may be revised on the basis of epidemiological data.
