Catalonia has a new president. Quim Torra, that's the man of the day, today elected leader after more than six months without a government. Quim Torra is the 131st Catalan president. His election marks the end of a tense period for Catalonia during which the parliament declared independence, the Spanish government suspended self-rule and the leading figures of the Catalan executive were sent to prison or went into exile. After four failed attempts to elect a president, the pro-independence parties in the chamber have today managed to swear in one.
