Meanwhile, the new Catalan Parliament held its second plenary session, in which it supported the legitimacy of Carles Puigdemont as the country's president - a symbolic move after Spain blocked his reinstatement. In a controversial session, the the chamber's pro-independence majority voted in favor of the measure, paving the way to end the current lack of government in Catalonia.
