It’s been three months since eight Catalan ministers were sent to prison. Two of them are still in preventive detention without bail and they won’t be out anytime soon. In January, the judge in charge of the investigation into the independence process decided to keep vice-president Oriol Junqueras in custody and, today, he made the same decision for Interior minister Joaquim Forn. He believes that, if released, Forn could repeat the offenses he is accused of: basically, declaring independence. This despite the minister already having resigned his seat as a deputy in the new Parliament. A university professor helps us look into the issue, and also examine whether the leaders accused of rebellion by the Spanish authorities could be barred from office - even before trial.
