It's going to be an intense night in Catalonia. After a day of dramatic events, president Carles Puigdemont finally decided to not call an early election. Parliament is meeting and a declaration of independence is back on the table: what kind of support it has, however, is not clear. Puigdemont admitted he tried to negotiate a way out of the unprecedented political crisis between Catalonia and Spain but accused Madrid of acting irresponsibly and not being willing to guarantee that calling snap elections would stop the intervention in the region's self-government. PSOE, the main opposition party in Spain, had promised this, but the governing PP, with a majority in the Senate, said it would go ahead anyway.
