The Spanish government is going to strip Catalonia of its self-government due to the independence process. Although the Catalan government was reinstated after the Franco dictatorship in 1977, even before the Spanish Constitution was drafted, Madrid will activate its article 155 in order to set up direct rule over Catalonia. The Spanish government has the support of the two other largest parties in Spain: PSOE and Ciudadanos. What will happen, though, is totally unchartered waters, as the Catalan president has already said the Catalan Parliament will officially declare independence if autonomy is revoked.
