This afternoon's meeting of the anti-terror coordination cabinet has given few more public details about this morning's incident at a police station in Cornellà de Llobregat, which is being treated as a "terrorist attack". Catalan interior minister Miquel Buch said it was an "isolated event" with the aim of "attacking the police", in this case Catalonia's Mossos d'Esquadra.

The Mossos' high commissioner, Rafel Comes, confirmed they're still treating the case as a terror attack, because a police officer was the target and that the perpetrator shouted "Allahu Akbar" during the attack. He said it's been categorised as an isolated event because "there was no repeat".

Interior department leadership, who gave a press conference after the search of the attacker's property was completed, confirmed that it had found "neither explosives nor weapons".

The investigation is currently legally sealed and Mossos d'Esquadra don't want to give more details about the development of the case or the people they've questioned. That said, they've said nobody is in custody.

For his part, the head of the Mossos, Miquel Esquius described the actions of the officer opening fire at the perpetrator, killing them, as "proportional" because there was clear intent to kill her.

The Mossos have confirmed the attacker's identity thanks to his fingerprints: Abdelouahab Taib, a 29-year-old Algerian. They have repeated that he has no criminal record within Spain; they are waiting for international checks to come back. Comes said that they have information which "will take weeks to analyse" and that, until that has happened, they won't know his motive.
