Catalan exports have grown around 9.5% in the first semester of 2017, to a total of 35.64 billion euros, above the average rate of growth in the EU (7.9%).

Sales from Catalonia abroad comprised 25.3% of the total exports for the whole of Spain in the first half of this year the Catalan Business and Knowledge ministry has announced in a press statement this Tuesday.

The chemical sector led in terms of exports during the first six months to reach a total of 9.329 billion euros, 8.2% more than last year, followed by capital goods (6.266 billion, +1,%) and the automotive industry (5.607 billion, +5,8%).

The province that registered the greatest number of exports is Barcelona with sales to the value of 27.7302 billion (+7,5%), then came Tarragona with 4.2069 (+20,5%), Girona (2.7642, +14,2%) and Lleida (0.9384, +13,5%).

In June 2017, the last month of the period, a year-on-year increase was also seen, with a 5.6% growth in exports compared with June 2016.
