The exhumation of Salvador Dalí's body to extract DNA samples and resolve a paternity lawsuit made by a neighbour from Figueres in Catalonia will be carried out this Thursday from 8pm, after the Dalí Theatre-Museum has closed to the public.

This was the report from the Supreme Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC), after the Salvador Dalí Foundation made a request to a Madrid court to change the time of proceedings in order to avoid any disturbance with the museum's daily activity. The Madrid court accepted the request and also transferred the case to Figueres, which will oversee the task of exhumation from 8pm, after the Theatre-Museum is closed.

"Impossible"

The decision from the Madrid court was given a few days after the Town Council of Figueres assured that it was "impossible" to exhume the body of the painter for technical reasons. The mayoress, Marta Felip, explained that the Theatre-Museum where Dalí is buried is a municipal property. She also claimed there was not enough time to carry out the exhumation before July 20th or to obtain the necessary permits.

However, the technical problems have finally been resolved and the exhumation of the body will start, as planned, this Thursday. The exhumation of the body aims to resolve the controversy surrounding PIlar Abel, the supposed daughter of the genius artist of surrealism.
